Richard Dearborn was a native ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓian who received the AB degree from Willamette University in 1895. While at Willamette, he was a member of their champion football team that succeeded in beating both U of O and OSC. He obtained his EE degree from Cornell in 1900 and became a faculty member in the EE Department at U of O in the following year. In 1903 Dearborn became the head, at age 29! In 1914, the EE Departments of U of O and OSC were merged in Corvallis and Dearborn remained head of the joint EEE Department until 1934. He then served the School of Engineering as Dean for a further 10 years. During his career he was associated with the Railway Light and Power Company of Portland and served on several utilities and public service commissions.
